The Hobbit Diet Plan

Have you ever wondered what the easiest way to lose weight (and more importantly body fat) is? I know I have. The United States currently has the highest rate of obesity, and the problem is getting worse. The problem is that we are obese because we are always trying to find easy ways to lose weight. It’s an endless battle. We develop this fat-free, and sugar-free that, but we still don’t lose weight.

Well, I’m here to tell you that there is an easy way to lose body fat, and it’s not what you think. You see, most people will tell you that to lose body fat you need to eat less. I am here to tell you that this is not always the case. Many times, the best way to burn body fat is to eat more or more often. That’s why I call it the Hobbit Diet Plan.

You see, the Hobbits, from the book and movie series “Lord of the Rings”, eat several meals throughout the day, not just 2 or 3 like most Americans. If you’ve seen the first movie in the series, you’ll remember a scene where the Hobbits stop eating and are reprimanded for doing so. The guide said they had already had breakfast, and the Hobbit quickly replied, “Yes, but how about a ‘second’ breakfast”. He went on to ask about other foods that the Hobbits were used to eating. All in all, I believe the total number of meals will increase to 6. That’s right, 6 meals a day.

Now, six meals a day sounds silly, but the Hobbits nailed it. By eating more meals spread out throughout the day, you are actually helping your body to keep your body fitter. This means that your body will burn more calories, even if you are sitting in bed.

By eating less, you’re sure to put your body into “starvation” mode, grabbing all the fat it can get to survive. This, unfortunately, is a genetic trait passed down from our ancestors thousands of years ago, when food was scarce. When your body’s calories are low or you go a long time without eating, your body will always fear the worst and you will think that you will never eat another meal. So what does your amazing body do? It begins to burn fewer calories to maintain what has been stored so far. Your body will also begin to break down your own muscles for fuel instead of using body fat. Your body will think this is the best solution. It’s eliminating hard-working muscle and saving its fat stores for later down the road when you really need it.

Well, we all know you won’t be very hungry. So, what do you do when you eat? Your body is always afraid that starvation is coming, so it stores all the calories as fat for the next time you lose it. And you will be fat. Cruel revolution.

So, how to break the cycle. Eat like Hobbits. Eat more every day. It is best to eat 5 – 6 meals evenly spaced throughout each waking hour, every 3 – 4 hours. I know, you’re thinking “Holy cow, does this guy want me to eat every 3, 4 hours?”. That’s right! You see, by eating a lot, you are signaling to your body that you are eating well and there are no signs of weakness ahead, so it is good to go ahead and burn the all of the extra energy is in the form of fat.

However there are some important things to remember. Even if we eat 5 – 6 meals a day, we still need to be mindful of the calories we eat. You should not eat 5 – 6 meals from Quarter Pounders and Fries, or Big Macs. and Chocolate Shake. Your body only needs so many calories to function properly. If you want to burn fat, you need to make sure you are just below that level.

“Ah ha!”, you say, “You tricked us”. No, not at all. I think you’d be surprised how many calories your body needs to run properly. In fact, it’s common for many people to not have enough calories, which, in turn, puts their bodies into starvation mode.

So how many calories does your body really need? Well, that’s a good question, and the correct answer depends on your body type. Now, that’s pretty heavy on the math for now, but here are some averages.

For women, the average calorie intake to maintain body weight is between 2000 – 2100 calories per day. Basically, to lose weight (preferably body fat), you need to consume 1400 – 1800 calories per day.

For men, the average calorie intake to maintain body weight is between 2700 – 2900 calories per day. Basically, to lose weight (preferably body fat), you need to consume 2200 – 2700 calories.

It has a lot of calories. This is not a starvation diet. A little math shows that someone trying to maintain 2500 calories a day and eating 5 times a day is allowed 500 calories per meal. If you choose food correctly, 500 calories is a lot of food. For example, you can eat 4 ounces of grilled chicken, 6 ounces of baked potatoes, a cup of broccoli, and a large (2 cups) mixed green salad with light Italian dressing, which is about 450 calories. There is a lot of food!

So, if you want to burn fat and be able to eat well while you work, I recommend that you eat like the Hobbits. Try to eat 5 – 6 balanced meals a day every 3 – 4 hours. I think you will be surprised by the results.
