How to Stop Eating Too Much Food

How many of you have spent days eating junk food? Don’t you regret it later? Your stomach hurts, you feel sad, irritable, and your energy levels drop. In addition, the waist belt is tight, making it difficult for you to breathe. You’ll be sure to weigh more by the end of the week. Why is this possible you may wonder?

You are not alone. I struggled with eating too much of the wrong kind of food at times. Yes, even though I’m a health coach who empowers people to eat and live well, I sometimes have my moments. It’s important to take the time to think about what things in your life may be contributing to your diet. Once you know the cause, you can think about possible solutions. Below are the 3 main causes of my stomach pain, my snacking style and my remedies:

Sale of items required for the project: For my dad’s birthday I bought these delicious chocolate cupcakes with creamy, dairy-free frosting from my local health food store, The World Center, but there are more cupcakes I bought it just for him and then I ate the rest. Now granted, these cupcakes are made with ingredients that I can mention, contain no trans fat. Basically, these cupcakes are made with single-flavored oils. However, cupcakes contain white flour and sugar and many calories without much nutrition.

Solution: Buy as much dessert as you want, not more or better yet, think of a dessert gift to give. I’ll be sure to do this next time!

Will focus on work: One day at work, my productivity was better than before. It’s running. I made a lot of progress. Come 5:30pm, I’m still working. Come 6:30pm, I’m still working. I didn’t finish work until 9:00pm. By this time I was very hungry. There is no way to prepare food now. I went to Whole Foods and ate more than I should. I also drank a soy mocha drink that was like two servings with a total of 350 calories in one shot, and I ate a bag of Waffle Fries that was about 600 calories.

Solution: Don’t let work or a busy life lead you. You should always stop to rest and eat no matter what. If you are having trouble knowing what time it is because you are immersed in work or other activities you are doing, set a timer, make lunch or dinner with a friend.

In the end you will be more productive because taking a break every 3 hours will increase productivity. I am back to eating regular meals. Today, I wanted to continue working at noon, so I stopped. When it was time to prepare my lunch and dinner, I encountered another serious food situation.

Boredom ensues: I have been busy working and taking care of my aging parents. I haven’t had as many fun activities as I used to. So what happens? I get bored. What’s the fastest and easiest way to take care of boredom? Eat something sweet. For me, one of the delicious things is the soy ice cream box.

Solution: Make time to plan something fun in your life at least every week. The first thing I did was compile a list of friends I wanted to get together with, and I started contacting them. Next, I thought of some ideas for a weekend trip that my husband and I would enjoy. Finally, I’m looking into participating in some kind of group work that meets whenever I have an interest.

It took me a whole day of good food to feel good again after 3 days of horrible food. I’m happy to say I’m back on track and feeling good again. Hopefully, my personal story will give you some ideas and/or motivation to get you back on track if you’re currently struggling with eating the wrong foods. Take some time to think about why you overeat, and then think of ways to correct the situation. This approach can work wonders!
