No Easy Ways To Lose Weight

I have read many articles that claim weight loss in amazing ways. Some say that if I exercise just twenty minutes a day for twelve weeks I will lose 8 kg and 4 inches. Some people tell me what I need to include in my diet to achieve my dream figure. My magazine rack can be divided into two parts. One, for magazines about losing weight through exercise and another section for magazines that claim to lose weight through proper diet.

I don’t know if any of this works. I have never had success following a twelve week plan. So, every Sunday night I motivate myself and set my alarm half an hour earlier than usual. This half hour is my scheduled time on the treadmill. The course fails to wake up every morning. An act called snooze is very convenient and a big problem for all of us who want to lose weight. Every week I have a new plan to lose weight the ‘easy’ way.

Last week I got really into fitness. I dismissed my maidservant. For no fault of hers, and without a word of bitterness I let my assistant go. I decided, if I wanted to lose weight, now was the time. The maidservant is the most important member in the Indian household. There are two types, live-in assistants or part-time assistants. Cleans the house, washes the utensils and cleans the bathroom floors. In some houses he loads the washing machine and unloads the dryer. So, he is a very important member of the family. Letting him go was a big decision. I tightened my belt and got ready for the day. I couldn’t tell my husband because I knew he would scream at me in disbelief. To be honest, I never believed it myself. I spent a sleepless night tossing and turning to figure out how I was going to complete all the work. I think I lost some calories last night. I started my morning sweeping the house with a broom. I didn’t care about the weight of the brush before this, I decided to get something lighter on my hands. It took about twenty minutes to sweep the entire house. It seemed like a good time to take a break when my doorbell rang. My maid has returned to return a vase that she borrowed. When I saw him, all my determination to lose weight flew out the window and I pulled him. I prepare a cup of tea for him and thank him every day for coming to work. I have to think of another easy way to lose weight now.

So, today I woke up and decided to eat less. It’s easier than household chores. I started my day with a banana and went to eat papaya an hour later. I was hungry again within an hour and decided to quail my hunger with two glasses of water. I was busy with my work and playing games with my little daughter. By the time he slept in the evening I was starving and my body was craving cheese. What I saw before me was the cheese sandwich dance. When my daughter fell asleep I ran to the kitchen and made two cheese sandwiches. I realized then, another easy way to lose weight was missing out on me.

I now have a new decision. I collect all the magazines I’ve bought in a long time and write an exercise routine for myself. I wish these magazines were more honest and not just ‘the easy way to lose weight’. Because losing weight is not easy, there are no shortcuts.
