Importance

Workouts that last longer than an hour are very depleting on muscle glycogen stores. Think of your muscle glycogen as your fuel source for your muscles. Vigorous exercise not only depletes your muscle glycogen but also breaks down muscle tissue and increases cortisol levels. Cortisol is a catabolic hormone released in response to stress that attempts to increase blood sugar levels. In order to recover properly, you need to replenish your glycogen and switch your body from catabolic (muscle-breaking) mode to anabolic (muscle-building) mode.

Time

There is little work behind the window where your muscles are able to absorb nutrients. Studies have shown that this window closes after 1-2 hours. The first part of the post-workout diet is to take a recovery shake right after the workout. For best results, you need to add this shake within 15-30 minutes of the end of the process. The idea behind this is that you want your body to go into a catabolic (muscle breakdown) state as soon as possible. With the right recovery shake, you can switch your body from a catabolic state to an anabolic state to replenish your muscle glycogen and stimulate protein synthesis. After the post-workout shake you want to eat a good meal 1-2 hours later. This will add needed nutrients and extra calories.

Nutrients

The structure of your vibration after your workout is important. Many combat athletes make the mistake of taking what your gym rat uses as an iron pump. They often eat too much protein and too few carbohydrates, if any. What combat athletes need to include is a good recovery shake in a ratio of 3 carbs to 1 protein.

The type of carbohydrate and protein is also important. To switch your body from a catabolic state to an anabolic state, you need to increase your insulin and replenish your muscle glycogen. The two best carbohydrates out there are Dextrose and Maltodextrin. Dextrose has a glycemic index of 100 and is similar to blood sugar. This goes directly to your muscles prompting nutrients to start protein synthesis. Malodextrin is a slower digesting carbohydrate that gives you a quick release of blood sugar to replenish your muscle glycogen.

The second most important macronutrient is the right kind of protein. You want a steady supply of amino acids from high quality sources like Whey protein and Micellar Casein to rebuild damaged tissue so it can bounce back. Whey is the fastest digesting protein and Micellar Casein gives you that smooth delivery. Studies have shown that adding casein in addition to whey is beneficial for muscle recovery and growth.

Rehydration is also important for your recovery. You want to replace not only sodium and potassium, but also magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus. The longer your body stays dry, the longer it will take to heal. Our recovery shakes use the right combination of minerals and electrolytes that are lost in sweat.

A post-workout shake boosted with L-Glutamine can help with recovery. L-Glutamine has long been used in the endurance community and can boost your immune system and prevent intense training. Vitamin C and Vitamin E are also important in fighting free radicals and combating the effects of intense training.

Long-term health considerations

Long-term health should be at the forefront of any athlete. You don’t want to sacrifice your long-term health for immediate benefits. It’s important that your soy sauce doesn’t contain artificial flavors, artificial colors or flavors. Make sure it doesn’t contain Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose, or other artificial sweeteners. As a general rule, if an ingredient is not listed, or if there are multiple chain words for an ingredient, they are just made up and should be used with caution. You should also avoid processed foods. You are researching your products and making sure they are scientifically based and safe to use. Our products are 100% scientific and 100% natural. In addition, our products are manufactured in a registered facility which ensures that there are no impurities in our products.
