Walking – An Underrated Form of Exercise for Weight Loss
Most people are very busy. For example, I hold two jobs – one full-time and one part-time. I sit for 12 hours a day three times a week. That’s a long time to be without exercise. This is why many people who work in offices tend to put on weight and find it difficult to lose weight.
I got to the point where I didn’t know what to do with exercise. I don’t have time to join the gym. I also don’t have time to run home and change into gym clothes. The easiest solution for me is to go for a walk after work on the days I do my daily routine. I wear or bring tennis shoes on those days, and right after work, I go for a walk somewhere nice in town. Sometimes I change where I walk but I walk a good 30 – 45 minutes at a time.
It can be difficult to see walking as a form of exercise. Many people say that you have to sweat it out to get the most out of it. Well, considering that many people don’t exercise at all, walking can be very beneficial for many people. Some of the benefits are:
- Low impact – don’t be hard on the knees
- You can walk anywhere
- Better circulation
- Helps in weight control (weight loss)
- Vary your pace – walk from pace to pace
Can you lose weight by walking? I definitely recommend it! Losing weight has more to do with the food you eat. If you eat junk food all the time, even daily exercise may not help you lose weight. However, eating a healthy diet and incorporating basic exercise such as walking can help you lose weight.
You can walk every day or a few times a week. The best part is that you can walk wherever you want. Do you live near the beach or a tourist area? If you are in a big city, you will find many cool places to walk. It is one of the easiest ways to start.
If your goal is to lose weight, it’s important to clean up your diet as well. The easiest way to do this is to reduce the amount of bad carbohydrates you eat. This means cutting out white bread, white rice, and sugar. Sugar is in many foods that you wouldn’t expect to have sugar so be sure to read the label.
Starting a regular walking program is easy. You can start at your own pace and go faster when you’re ready. When you’re moving, you’re on the right path to better health.
