Amoebiasis
Amoebiasis is a disease caused by the amoeba Entamoeba histolytica. This is a free-living organism that affects the colon of the human large intestine. It is characterized by inflammation and severe pain in the intestine. Amoebiasis is a common disease in areas of poor sanitation and hygiene. This is a contagious disease and is spread through contaminated food and water.
Transmission is usually via the fecal-oral or anal-oral route. The disease is spread by ingesting the sediments found in the feces. Dirty hands can cause the spread of disease.
Amoebiasis is diagnosed by –
• A conventional test with a conventional mortar, showing the presence of sand.
• A blood test showing an increase in WBC and ESR.
People with weakened immune systems due to chronic illness, malnutrition and old age are more susceptible to amoebiasis.

Some common symptoms are:
• Severe abdominal pain and cramping.
• Loss of appetite and appetite.
• Extreme fatigue and weight loss.
• Bloating and gut regurgitation.
• Pain during bowel movements, blood pressure and fluid loss.
Treatment
Although the most common treatment is treatment with antibiotics, home remedies can be of great help. They are –

Prevention

• Maintain good hygiene by washing your hands with soap and warm water.
• Use clean bathrooms and toilets.
• Drinking water should be boiled or treated with iodine tablets.
• Avoid sharing towels or face wash.
• Wash raw vegetables thoroughly before eating.
• Avoid eating uncovered street food.
