Freeze, Zap, And Losing More Than Fat Cells

Having been obese at one point in my life, I know the heartache of feeling overwhelmed and unaccepted. Our culture has taught many of us, especially women, to believe that being thin and beautiful as determined by the media leads to happiness, joy and self-love. There seems to be no limit to what we will do to achieve the beauty we believe no shape or form comes close to the look we are looking for.

It has come to my attention this week that the Food and Drug Administration has approved two new body-transforming “tools” ~ eliminating “love pools” and “pockets” of fat. These two medical procedures claim to rid the body of excess fat without the need for surgery or invasive procedures. One method involves “freezing” fat cells in “love cells” and specific areas of accumulated fat, which will self-destruct over a period of several months. With his “CoolSculpting device”, the patient simply sits in a chair while the technician uses a device that suctions a handful of fat into a container the size of a paper bag attached to it. when the body begins to cool the fat. Eventually the fat becomes completely frozen and the cells die an early, natural death ~ and are reabsorbed into the body. According to the company’s founder, Mitchell Levinson, fat is not coming back.

The second method is a method that does not kill the fat cells. But a low-energy laser device, called the Zerona laser, creates a small pore in the cell’s membranes that slowly dissolves the fat inside, shrinking the cells. According to Ryan Maloney, chief research officer of the manufacturer, Erchonia Corp., the cells are still alive and able to secrete important health hormones. The patient lies on a table and the device rotates around the waist, hips and thighs. The exercise takes 20 minutes per side and is given three times a week for two weeks. Both procedures can cost up to $3,000 for each “fat cell” (or similar accumulation of fat cells) and the larger area of fat, the “muffin top” may require two treatments. These methods are suitable, however, only for “special” lumps, not large portions of fat.

If you’ve read this far and you’re not really worried, you should be really worried ~ more than worried. These companies and the people who pay thousands of dollars for these methods support a myth that robs thousands of people of self-acceptance and happiness in life: the myth of the very good of the body. We have been brainwashed by the sixty billion dollar a year food industry that shows us, in conscious and unconscious ways, that we get what we want: loved and desired. , accepted and appreciated, above all satisfied and happy ~ if we lose weight and make a difference to ourselves. However, according to recent studies, no one is happy when they are thin or reshaped according to some external definition of beauty. Also, despite everything we do about lifestyle changes and weight loss, obesity is on the rise ~ it’s reaching our young people with alarming numbers. Something is seriously wrong.

For most of my professional life I have worked with women struggling with weight issues, self-worth doubts and negative body image. In my own life, I have gained and lost over 1,900 pounds. I am well aware of the desperate attempts to be thin and fit like the models on magazine covers. I’ve learned that dieting or “sculpting” our bodies won’t heal us. Self-esteem requires us to dispel the lies we tell ourselves or others have told us and now believe to be true. We need to focus on ourselves, accept who we are and trust our worth and goodness. Stop believing the myth that “if I were different than I am I would be happy”. We need to define our own truth and live with wisdom, wise choice and self-acceptance.

Unfortunately, many women (and men) live their lives believing that they need to be thinner or prettier in some way in order to be happy and fulfilled in life. Often times this search for perfection leads to a sense of frustration and neediness ~ and often isolation, depression, and eating disorders are the result. In order to live in acceptance, joy and freedom, we must let go of the “talk” and open up to the truth that there is more freeing, truth and wealth and opportunity: already loved. we are done, as we are. We should make our additions less heavy or different in shape. There is no place in the world where the value of a person’s soul should depend on a number on a scale or a carved image. Attempts to be thin or thin take away from the heart of the matter ~ and what brings us true happiness: getting in touch with our true self and knowing that it doesn’t need to be fixed, or rather that we may live, be rich, and be loved.

In addition to the predatory opportunities for self-acceptance and change in belief systems about body and weight issues, eliminating fat cells from the body may not be beneficial in the long term. Fat cells are an important topic, and it is important to understand the role of those cells in health and well-being. In short, fat cells are not places where free radicals are stored. They also control growth, maturity, healing, fighting disease and aging. Fat cells release more than 100 hormones, two of which are leptin (which tells the brain to eat more or less) and adiponectin (which helps regulate metabolism ). Healthy fat cells respond to the body’s needs, says Michael D. Jensen, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. When fat cells don’t work properly, they don’t do their job of storing or releasing fat (a process that is necessary for a healthy body). However, some fat cells (called visceral fat cells) accumulate around the heart and liver and release fat into the bloodstream, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.

Another disadvantage in modern fat burning methods is that they do not target visceral fat ~ only subcutaneous fat (the fat that accumulates under the skin, around the waist, thighs and abdomen below). If a person continues to eat more calories than they burn, they may accelerate the process of accumulating unhealthy, life-threatening fat ~ and, perhaps, it’s sculptural but at a very high cost. In addition, many experts are concerned that the removal of fat from saturated fat increases the level of fat in the bloodstream, which is a toxic and dangerous condition. Also, the loss of fat cells can lower leptin levels and signal the brain to eat more. Although the two companies, Zeltiq and Erchonia Corp., assure the public that their methods are safe, they are also encouraging people to change their diet and activities.

It seems, of course, that excess fat can be removed for a fee, and if the patient is aware, they will change their lifestyle to lose weight. This brings us back to the myth of the ideal body and the failure of most Americans to maintain a healthy weight and standard of living. Is there more to it than fat cells and body image? In my opinion.

We want to be thin and in shape because that’s what makes us happy and accepted in our culture. However this money is a lie and most weight loss systems fail because they don’t make people happy in the end. It seems like it won’t fix the underlying cause of emptiness or depression that runs deeper than any diet, fat-freezing regimen, or laser magic. Before any true or lasting happiness can come, we must accept ourselves and be grateful for the bodies we have. We should be amazed at how complex and beautiful our bodies are and how intelligent the body is. We need to take the time to listen to the whispers of our hearts and souls. We must have the courage to face our deepest fears and emotions without turning to food and fat as a refuge. We need to face our truth, our lies, and realize that sadness and pain are based on wanting to be somewhere other than where we are now. This includes our bodies. We must stop contributing to the cruelty and violence of forcing our bodies to conform to some external standard.

If you are a person who is tempted to look at taking fat, I think if you consider asking yourself: do I have the opportunity to worry and work hard to be perfect? Am I turning away from my feelings and leading to bad eating habits? Do I want a quick fix ~ an overnight cure ~ that robs me of the opportunity to face my true issues and embrace my life through thoughtfulness and mature choices? Am I avoiding the discipline and discipline necessary to establish a healthy lifestyle, continuing a habit of avoidance? Am I setting an admirable and respectful example for the youth of our culture by paying thousands of dollars to fix things that aren’t broken ~ need a life change? Can I put this money to better use than freezing or scrapping pockets of ‘I don’t need it’?

It is my belief that when we welcome and accept the parts of ourselves that we really want to take, we open up to freedom and true happiness. Our lives can be lived and filled with value and meaning. Facing our emotions, learning new ways of being with our feelings and emotions opens us up to everything in life. The freedom of conforming to the outward appearance and the desired appearance expands our horizons and enhances our way of entering the world in a clear, transparent and fulfilling way. Turning away from the choice of physical change is almost always the risk of life to live deep from the core of all and power. From this position, we stand and participate in the change that our culture so desperately needs: a change from the captivity of desire and the search for perfection ~ to truth, to life, to life , to embrace the whole world with consciousness, strength, faith. , really and purpose.

“…don’t be satisfied with stories, with what happened to others. Open your story, without complex explanations, so that everyone can understand the story: we have opened you.” ~ Room.
