The Five CRITICAL Things to Do For Your Health and Weight Loss

I get asked a lot of questions about what is the best diet, the best diet plan, the best exercise program, and what is the best book to recommend to improve your health, fitness, or weight.

The answer is that there is no good way to do it. There is no perfect book, no right or wrong way to do it.

Here are the 5 most important things to achieve in your health

1. Continue to learn about health, fitness, nutrition and weight loss from a variety of sources

The most important thing to do right from the beginning is to do it and start learning about health, and follow what you learn. We are a very diverse group, and what works for you may not work for the next person. You should find what interests you from a variety of sources, expand your knowledge and never accept anything that is good for your health. Keep reading, keep learning and keep what you like and discard what you don’t.

Knowledge is not power, but “knowing how to do it is power!”

Some very simple things to remember is that the body runs on food, and if you give it the best quality food, no matter what the house is, you will probably get some good results from most of the time. Eat healthy by eating as close to natural, organic foods as possible and avoiding processed foods and trans fats.

2. Find a mentor.

Someone who has been there, done that can emulate you.

I learned at a young age that if we can model someone who has been there and done that and got results, then you can “cut to the chase” and find out what the work for your health and lose weight – why not and doing so will result in faster results.

Find a mentor or role model for what you are looking for. If it’s losing weight or improving your health, find someone who has walked in your footsteps and knows what you’re going through. Model them. Do what they did, repeat what they did and contact them to ask what worked and what didn’t. You can save yourself time and effort by doing what works and skipping what doesn’t.

3. Use the knowledge you learn about health every day

This is where the performance part comes in. You should start using the knowledge you have gained from what you have read about health or watched and talked to people who have been there before you. If you don’t put it into practice, you’ve become an informant, not someone who pursues their knowledge. You must start practicing the principles you have learned every day and stick to them. Without trial and error, you won’t move quickly and you won’t know for sure what works and what doesn’t.

4. Repeat steps one, two and three

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to lose weight, improve your health, or get what you want. You should always learn and challenge what you have read. When I say I’m teaching wrong I ask what results have you tried? Well, they didn’t try it, so I asked “what right do you have to say what I’m learning is wrong”. It may have worked for me, for many of the people I train and for yourself, but unless you try and challenge it, you will never know.

Keep learning about health, keep reading, and keep applying what you read and this new knowledge. Start the process of analyzing for yourself what you like and don’t like. Remember this is about you, not me or anyone else, but what will help you achieve your weight loss and health goals. This is great for applying some fitness principles that are so controversial that you might think they don’t work. One of my favorite quotes is “Don’t believe what I say, but I challenge you to prove me wrong”. I want you to try it.

At the beginning of my journey to lose 300 pounds, I read a book that I preached like gospel. I was finally told to “open up” and read another story, so I set about learning everything I could about health and weight loss. I began to use my new knowledge every day, found people who used the information before and their beliefs about it, what worked for their health and then I found out what to do.

Finally, I discovered the secret to health and weight loss.

5. Never give up.

It won’t stop. Over the course of your life, in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or more, what’s a few days if you get off track. Keep working while you’re working, keep learning, keep learning, keep going back to what worked when you were working, and keep up with your daily physical activity. Perhaps the most important thing about exercise and fitness is that our bodies were designed to move, and we’ve gotten away from that. We should do something every day to exercise our bodies.

Never give up. Never forget the health you want and keep working towards your goal.
