Having a baby is a life-changing experience and with it comes many new responsibilities. You have a new little person who is completely dependent on you to make the right choices for them. While you were pregnant, you undoubtedly ate healthy. Maybe you exercised a little, maybe not, but now after giving birth you might be thinking about post-pregnancy exercise and diets. Do you even have to think about dieting? Well, I don’t believe in diets, I believe in changing your dietary habits. That seems so much better to me than going on a diet. As soon as I say I’m going on a diet, I actually get hungry!
It is easier than you think to make healthy choices and change your dietary habits. During pregnancy, your body needs to feed you and the baby that is growing inside you. You gain weight. You gain some more weight and more weight and then you think what happened? How did I get so big? The baby comes, time passes and you start thinking about pregnancy diets to get your pre-pregnancy body back and maybe you even skip meals thinking that eating less will help you more.
A diet full of healthy choices is a healthy diet. When you choose to eat foods that are good for you, your body responds in a positive way. Breaking old unhealthy habits and establishing new healthy habits can be a challenge at first, but once you see and feel the difference in your body, you will continue to choose what is best for you.
One of the easiest things you can do is eliminate your calorie intake. Sugary drinks are just wasted calories, swap these drinks for water. Just take that one healthy step. And then take another like eating fresh fruit instead of processed snacks. And then another or substitute spinach when you use lettuce and before you know it, you have started new healthy habits.
So thinking about your pregnancy and diets and all the weight gain and wanting to lose the baby fat… the best first step is to choose to eat healthy.
