How to Lose Baby Weight Fast, Safely & For Good

One of the most common questions women will ask after giving birth to a baby is ‘How can I lose my baby weight fast?’ The problem, however, is that losing baby weight quickly (like any weight) is not the safest or best method. Usually, women who turn to crash diets end up piling on the pounds again and very quickly.

No, you won’t lose your baby weight in a week or even 2, but it doesn’t have to take a long time to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. If you follow a good diet and fitness plan, you should have no problem losing weight quickly and keeping it off completely.

This is exactly how I lost my baby weight. It didn’t take that long for me either, but I did need a program to give me the guidance and direction I was looking for to lose the baby weight safely and without affecting my milk supply (this is another important reason why you should not consider a crash diet!).

One of the first things I learned about how to lose baby weight was not to rush in, but to exercise when I felt up to it and was ready. It can take up to 6 months for your body to recover after pregnancy and you need to keep that in mind! So it is important to take your time in practicing. Starting with a few low impact exercises or just brisk walking with your baby (in a sling will also give you resistance!) will get you started. This is what I did. Walking and holding my baby in a sling was lovely, and it also calmed him when he had colic (and also recently when he’s teething). So even just going out when your baby is upset would be a good goal to start with.

Another thing everyone will tell you is breastfeeding! Not only will it help your body shrink back to normal size, it will also help you lose weight much faster (and of course it’s best for your baby). Much of the extra weight we gain during pregnancy was there to help prepare us for breastfeeding. Of course, this is not everyone’s option, but by not breastfeeding it will inevitably be a little more difficult to lose those extra kilos. It definitely paid off for me.

Eating low-fat foods will also help you lose weight quickly. Get your husband or a family member to help you prepare nutritious meals, not only to help you lose weight, but also to help you keep your energy levels up for your new bundle of joy! Keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be complicated and eat a lot of fruit before your meals (fruit digests much faster than any other food and eating before a meal will be better on your digestion). This is probably the hardest part, it was for me. There is so much information floating around and as a new mum I didn’t have time to really go into what to eat – having a newborn is such an important event. This is why following a program really helped me.

When you give birth, you lose a lot of weight very quickly and find that you already fit into clothes that you couldn’t before. This can give you a boost, a head start on your weight loss quest. Find a low-impact diet and exercise program and you’ll be amazed at how much leaner you’ll be in just a few weeks. Not only will you be slimmer, but people will notice – people will expect you to be injured all the time and have no time, but you can pleasantly surprise them! This will further encourage you in your new life as a healthy fit mother! It is not unrealistic to have lost your pregnancy weight within a few months – I did, and quite easily by having a structured program.
