What to Eat After Exercise – Post Exercise Shake
Your post-workout shake (or meal) is the most important meal of the day. If you don’t pay close attention to why you need these meals properly, you’re missing the whole point of exercise and nutrition. Eating after a workout will build your muscles more than the workout itself. Here’s why:
When you exercise on a burst of energy you burn a lot of fat and calories, but your muscle sugar stores begin to empty. After a workout, you need to replenish it, you need to fill it with good sugars, and this is where your post-workout shake comes into play.
Let Insulin Carry Excess Sugar Blood To Your Muscles.
Here are some things you should know about your post-workout meal:
- Within half an hour after training, you should take your shake. I will give you the recipe for the shake soon. It should be very sweet, full of carbohydrates and protein and no fat at all. I just love my vanilla flavored whey protein shake, it’s a treat and a necessity at the same time.
- Insulin stores blood sugar in your muscles. When you put that super sweet food into your body – you will have sugar in your blood, the next thing that will happen is the pancreas will secrete insulin which will collect the excess sugar blood and store it somewhere in the body. This process happens every time you eat candy. It has three options, either store sugar in your muscles, liver or as fat in your stomach or hips.
- Your muscle sugar stores are empty. Because they are empty, insulin will, by default, store sugar in your muscles thus replenishing the sugar lost from your exercise. This is the only time when insulin will do it’s best to actually build your muscles instead of making you fat.
Here’s the Recipe I Promised Before:
Pineapple Vanilla:
ingredients:
1 cup of water
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
one cup of frozen pineapple
2 tablespoons honey – raw honey is best, meaning it hasn’t been heated
30 grams of vanilla whey protein powder.
Method of preparation:
Blend everything in a blender until it becomes smooth to drink.
This is a very sweet shake, I use organic maple syrup for my whey protein shake and one day I tried some myself, I almost threw up because of the sweetness. Mind you I don’t use sugar in any of my food or drinks so I’m not used to having anything sweet anymore.
I recently bought the book ‘Truth about Six Pack Abs’ which you can find online written by Mike Geary. It tells you how to make more than 72 meal ideas and many more exercises that together will act as fat and calorie burners in your body.
