If you have a busy lifestyle, it’s quick and easy to make with little cleanup. Green smoothies taste great because fruit dominates the flavor over vegetables.
Greens are rich in almost all essential minerals and vitamins, including protein. Greens are rich in chlorophyll which has the healing properties of chlorophyll. The chlorophyll molecule is almost identical to hemoglobin, whose single iron atom replaces one magnesium atom. Some examples of greens are collard greens, kale, romaine lettuce, spinach, swiss chard and more.
When you start preparing green smoothies, start with 60% fruits and 40% vegetables, gradually moving to 60% vegetables and 40% fruits. If you’ve never had a green smoothie before, start with 1/2 cup of greens and gradually increase as your appetite changes. It’s also a good idea to rotate the types of vegetables you use each day. Variety is the spice of life!
My Favorite Green Smoothie
Makes: 16 oz. glass
1/2 C. to 2 C. kale (no stems), or romaine lettuce, or spinach, or swiss chard
(you can use vegetables of your choice)
1/2 apple, Fuji
1/2 banana
1/2 pineapple, fresh, diced
1/4 C. Orange Juice
1/2 C. Coconut Meat & Young Coconut Water or Water
1 tablespoon. Coconut oil
1 tablespoon. Apple Cider Vinegar, raw
Place the above ingredients into a high speed blender (Vita-Mix) or Bullet and blend until smooth.
