Acid Reflux Remedies – Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Treatment

Acid reflux is a gastro-esophageal reflux disease, usually also called as sour belching, which causes stomach acid to regurgitate in the esophagus, it is a common problem but a serious health disorder, simple remedies can relieve this problem before it can cause serious damage. People with this problem may have a bitter taste in the mouth, dry cough, sleep disturbances, chest pain and breathing problems. People with acid reflux may also experience heartburn for 2-3 days as acid build-up in the stomach causes a burning sensation in the chest.

Ginger is a commonly used herb and spice in food and it can be an excellent remedy for this problem and excess gas formation apart from many other issues related to the digestive system. Increased use of ginger in food or in salads can relieve excess acid and also reflux. Keeping a piece of ginger in the mouth and sucking the juice can help in healing any scarring in the esophagus caused by acid reflux. It also helps in strengthening the sphincter muscles to prevent acid from coming out of the stomach.

Two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with half a glass of water provides instant relief from acid reflux. Another excellent remedy to prevent this is to mix a banana with a pinch of cardamom powder and sugar, mix to form a paste and eat once a day; it is very effective if consumed half an hour before lunch. Drinking carrot juice also helps in controlling gas and controlling excess acid to prevent acid reflux episodes. Although it may sound wrong, but lemon juice can be very helpful in treating acid reflux because it contains good acids that help the body in digesting the bad acids present and regurgitating them in the esophagus. A full glass of water mixed with the juice of one lemon and half a teaspoon of rock salt can help in curing this problem immediately.

As with other medical conditions, it is also not due to one cause, poor eating habits and sleeping patterns can also contribute in promoting this problem even in a relatively healthy digestive system. Lack of physical activity, habit of lying down or sleeping right after eating or eating too much spicy and oily food are some other reasons for acid reflux and correcting these mistakes is a solution in itself.

Lack of water consumption, too much tea or coffee consumption and alcohol also produce excess acid in the stomach which can promote acid reflux at a later stage. Never go hungry but eat lightly and ensure adequate water consumption during the day, if possible, including milk in the diet, is an effective remedy to treat this problem.
