How Much Protein Do You Take In Or Eat Each Day On The Nutrisystem Diet?

Some people who contact me about Nutrisystem know (or have read) that it is a diet that consists of a relatively high amount of protein and a relatively low amount of carbohydrates. This is true even if you can eat comfort foods and sweet-tasting snacks and desserts. So, some people are skeptical of these ratios and claims and want to know how much protein you really take or eat every day on Nutrisystem.

This will vary depending on the Nutrisystem foods you choose as well as the side items you choose to add yourself. But, I can give you some idea about this by taking three random days of diet food and the average amount of daily protein. I will do this below.

Example of Day One Protein: To keep things simple, I’ll put the amount of protein for each meal in parentheses after that meal. For breakfast, I chose the very popular and highly rated blueberry pancakes (5 grams of protein,) roasted veggie pizza for lunch (8,) and roast turkey for dinner (18.) You are asked to enjoy a Nutrisystem snack and dessert every day so I’ve chosen buttered popcorn (4) and carrot cake (5.) My total protein (before I add any side items) is 40 grams. However, they ask that you add a healthy portion to each meal. So I might add milk to breakfast, carrots to lunch, and tomatoes to dinner. This will probably give me a good amount of extra protein that day.

Second Day Protein Examples: For the next day, I’ll choose a ham and cheese omelet for breakfast (13,) turkey hotdogs for lunch (5,) and chicken enchiladas for dinner (17.) I’ll choose an herb snack mix for my snack ( 6) and a mint cookie patty for dessert (6.) This gives me a total of 46 grams of protein for the day – but that’s before I add my sides for each meal. So I might add fruit for breakfast, raisins for lunch and a salad for dinner. This portion will increase my protein intake.

Example of Day Three: For day 3, I’ll choose apple cinnamon oatmeal (4) for breakfast, meatball melts for lunch (11,) and meat lasagna for dinner (18.) My snacks are cheese puffs (8) and my dessert will be a frozen caramel sundae (3.) My total protein grams for the day before I add my sides is 44.

Three Day Average: So my daily protein average for these three days (without side factoring) is 43 grams. Now like I said, this is not a complete number because you will be consuming more protein and the amount depends on the portions you choose. But it’s probably safe to say that you’re probably consuming at least 9 -15 grams of protein or more per day, again depending on what you choose.

How Much Protein Is Recommended For Weight Loss? Is This A Healthy Or Recommended Amount?: The Institute of Health’s dietary reference intake recommendations allow protein intake from 10 – 35% of your calorie intake and many believe that high protein intake contributes to weight loss. Since most people consume about 1200 -1500 calories per day on Nutrisystem, this protein level is right in line with the higher end of the range. Some very strict high protein diets include more or higher amounts, but I personally feel that Nutrisystem keeps the ratio safe but effective.
