Short Vigorous Cardiovascular Routines a Key to Boosting Weight Loss
We are always looking to learn better ways on how to lose weight. Weight loss, as we all know, is not a difficult practice in itself, but the discipline to maintain a healthy diet and daily exercise routine is possible.
Notice that I said the word could. I say this because a recent study by the American Heart Association has confirmed that doing just twenty minutes of cardiovascular activity three days a week shows the same significant results as those who do thirty minutes five days a week.
Do you have twenty minutes a day for three days to devote to losing weight? I would say that you do. If you think you don’t, start organizing your day’s events and you’ll see you can easily free up 20 minutes.
Here are some suggestions to start taking advantage of these new and exciting results from the American Heart Association.
Choose a cardiovascular exercise that you enjoy and that is easy for you to dedicate 20 minutes a day for three days of your week. It can be cycling, hiking, walking, running, jogging, stair climbing and the list goes on and on.
Since you have exercises to do, I highly recommend getting an MP3 player or iPod and loading it up with some of your favorite music, audiobooks, or whatever works for you. For me I like listening to Jimmy Buffet. All I can say is I’m a parrot head at heart.
With any exercise routine of course you should always consult your doctor before starting. Get the exam and check out and also start slowly! You’re not training for the Olympics here, you’re working towards a new healthy you.
As each day passes, increase the intensity of the exercise you do. For example, I take my first walk in the morning and in 20 minutes I can go through my entire neighborhood twice. Next week I’ll try to make it two and a quarter, and then increase that distance every week in a row. Eventually I’ll get to the point where my routine is really intense and that’s the idea of an energetic routine.
Of course you need to choose an exercise and a way to measure your progress so you know you’ll get that vigorous activity. If you find yourself benefiting from it, change the exercise to something else. I like to walk but if I find myself not wanting to walk I go ahead and ride a bike. The important thing here is to do your 20 minutes.
So go ahead and load your music and start your routine. You will be on your way to a successful weight loss routine.
